1.0 Parent’s Code of Behavior As parents, coaches and officials hold an enormous influence over the children and youth of the club, they are expected to set an exemplary standard of behavior and not bring the game into dispute.
1.1 Encourage children to participate, if they are interested. However, if a child is not willing, do not force him or her.
1.2 Focus upon the child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
1.3 Teach children that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each is accepted without undue disappointment. Emphasize the virtue of good sportsmanship.
1.4 Encourage children to always participate according to the rules.
1.5 Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a game. Do not critize players in front of the other parents, spectators or players, particularly your own child.
1.6 Remember children involved in organized sports for their enjoyment , not yours.
1.7 Remember children learn best from example. Applaud good plays by all teams.
1.8 If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the officials judgment and honesty in public. Remember, most officials give their time and effort for your child's involvement.
1.9 Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting events.
1.10 Recognize the value and importance of volunteer managers. They give their time and resources to help the team.
1.11 Avoid use of derogatory language based on gender.
2.0 Spectators Code of Behavior
2.1 Remember that children play organized sports for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators only, nor are they miniature professionals.
2.2 Applaud good performance and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of games outcome.
2.3 Respect the officials decisions. If there is a disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure in order to question the decision and teach the children to do likewise.
2.4 Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a game. Positive comments are motivational.
2.5 Condemn us of violence in any form, be if by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
2.6 Show respect for your teams’ opponents. Without them there would be no game.
2.7 Encourage players to follow the rules and officials decisions.
2.8 Demonstrate appropriate social behavior by not using foul language, harassing players, coaches or officials.
2.9 Avoid derogatory language based on gender.
3.0 Coaches Code of Behavior
3.1 Be reasonable in your demands of young players time, energy and enthusiasm.
3.2 Teach your players that rules of the sport are mutual agreements which no one should evade or break.
3.3 Whenever possible, group players to give a reasonable chance of success.
3.4 Avoid over-playing the talented players. The “just average” players need and deserve equal time.
3.5 Remember that children participate for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only pare of their motivation. Never ridicule or yell at the children for making mistakes or losing a game.
3.6 Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
3.7 Take into consideration the maturity level of the children, when scheduling and determining the length of practice times and games.
3.8 Develop team respect for the ability of opponents as well as for the judgment of officials and opposing coaches.
3.9 Follow the advice of a physician when determining when an injured player is ready to recommence training and games.
3.10 Avoid use of derogatory language based on gender.
4.0 Club Officals Code of Behavior
4.1 Ensure that equal opportunities for participation in sports are made available to all regardless of ability, size, shape, sex, age, or ethnic origin.
4.2 Ensure that equipment and facilities are safe and appropriate.
4.3 Ensure that adequate supervision is provided by qualified and competent coaches and officials capable of developing appropriate sports behavioior and skill technique.
4.4 Ensure that parents, coaches, sponsors, administrators, officals and participants understand their responsibilities regarding fair play.
4.5 Ensure that your behavior is consistent with the principles of good sporting behavior. Actions speak louder than words.
4.6 Condemn unsporting behavior and promote the respect for all opponents.
4.7 Compliment all participants on their efforts.
5.0 Players Code of Behavior
5.1 Play by the rules
5.2 If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the official’s judgement or honesty in public.
5.3 Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.
5.4 Work equally hard for yourself and/or for your team. Your team’s performance will benefit, so will you.
5.5 Be a good sport.
5.6 Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.
5.7 Co-operate with your coach, team-mates and opponents.
5.8 Play for the “fun of it” and not just to please parents and coaches.
